This award aims to recognize the best final degree projects submitted during the 2020/2021 academic year that have earned the highest distinction of matrícula de honor. Twenty proposals were submitted, from which three were selected to advance to the final. In addition to the first prize of €1,500 awarded to Paulo Seoane for his final degree project, "Artificial Intelligence Techniques Applied to Cyberbullying Detection on Social Networks," two second prizes of €500 each were presented: one to Manuel Couto Carril for his final degree project, "Monitoring and Control of Extensive Livestock Farming," and the other to Juan González Iglesias, who presented "Mobile Application and Manikin Tracking for Healthcare Emergency Training." Both projects were supervised by CITIC researchers and FIC faculty members Carlos J. Escudero Cascón and Óscar Fresnedo Arias, respectively.

The award-winning work aimed to develop an artificial intelligence model capable of detecting cyberbullying in social media comments, a task that is very complex because these comments are written in natural language.

The awards ceremony for the Best Applied Final Degree Project, now in its seventh edition and sponsored by the Aldaba WIB, Corunet, and NTT Data institutional chairs, with the collaboration of CITIC, was held as part of the Faculty’s Job and Internship Fair on April 5. On Tuesday, the fair brought together 26 ICT companies that delivered conferences and workshops aimed at guiding students.
