One of the main objectives of the ALDABA-WIB Chair: Women, ICT & Business at the University of A Coruña aims to attract women to study ICT degrees and develop as professionals on an equal footing with men. With the aim of reducing the existing gender gap in the sector, it has launched a study of indicators on female representation in the Computer Engineering degrees of the Galician University System.

Under the title “Study of Indicators and Actions to Improve the Gender Gap in Computer Engineering Degrees at the University System of Galicia,” the project includes a €1,000 grant for training in activities related to the degree’s competencies. In this first edition, the Chair has awarded this grant to Alberto Irigoyen Mallo, a student in the Bachelor’s Degree in Data Science and Engineering, who will be mentored by the Chair’s own staff and by ALDABA.

Among the activities to be carried out within the framework of the project is the design of a data model containing information on the performance rates of Computer Engineering degrees in Galicia, the loading of this model into a Business Intelligence tool, the definition of indicators and the design of relevant reports and charts, as well as the documentation of the entire process. As the Chair emphasizes, the data analysis will be conducted “with special attention to gender analysis.”
